EMTEC Launches Wi-Fi Capable Hard Drive And Power Bank
EMTEC, originally known as BASF from their old audio and video tape days, recently launched a Wi-Fi capable hard drive, the P600, and Power Connect U600 for mobile devices. While Wi-Fi capable hard drives are certainly nothing new but one which also lets you connect the device via a LAN connection is definitely something rare.
The Wi-Fi HDD P600 comes in 1TB and 500GB models that can sync data wirelessly, through the LAN connection or using the USB 3.0 port which also charges the device for wireless function. The drive can also be connected to other compatible DLNA devices.
The Power Connect U600 serves as an upgradeable storage solution. Storing the data on a MicroSD card that can be swapped on the go, the device basically does the same function as the Wi-Fi HDD, even has the same connectivity options except for DLNA functionality which is replaced by UPnP.
The Power Connect can also serve as a Wi-Fi hotspot and its internal 5200mAh battery can be used to charge devices such as phones.
Power Connect U600 has three LEDs on top of it to convey the device status with the green one indicating that the device is powered up and can do its function. The power button can be used to turn the Wi-Fi functionality on or off to conserve battery life, especially when charging other devices. The device can charge a phone from 30% to 90% in roughly an hour which is pretty impressive.
The 500GB Wi-Fi Drive is priced at $100, 1TB at $120 and the Power Connect U600 costs $50, making all three devices extremely affordable and lucrative for the features that they offer while retaining a good build quality.
