Ubuntu Touch Almost Ready For OnePlus One, Heading Soon To OnePlus 2
Recently it was reported that the next iteration of the highly famous OnePlus One will be getting a port of Ubuntu Touch. Well it seems that the developers have now delivered (well partially) and OnePlus One now has Ubuntu Touch support. Not long before it makes its way over to OnePlus 2.
While porting Ubuntu Touch to devices isn’t that big of an issue in itself, there have been many devices in the past to do it but the real challenge arises in the driver support (since drivers are not easily available for many devices) and making sure that all the cellular functions work properly. That is why most of the earlier ports of Ubuntu Touch on other devices were lacking features such as Radio and Wi-Fi.
The developer who was porting Ubuntu Touch to OnePlus One has now confirmed that cellular support is now available on the device and pretty soon a finished build will be available, once he gets the headphones, Bluetooth and camera working. Since he managed to get the cellular network working, these three shouldn’t prove to be much of an issue so it’s all smooth sailing from here.
Ubuntu Touch is now officially running on Nexus 4, Bq Aquaris e4.5 and E5 HD, and Meizu MX4. This family is about to get bigger, and maybe OnePlus 2 will follow soon enough. More details can be seen on the forum post by the developer.
