Pepsi Phone Incoming, Official Weibo Account Suggests
We don’t really know how to link soft drinks and phones, but interestingly enough, it appears that Pepsi is getting ready to jump on the smartphone bandwagon. A couple of clues suggest that PepsiCo China, dedicated to manufacturing and marketing snack foods & soft drinks, might soon release its own smartphone.
The idea sounds pretty crazy, but can’t be taken as a wild rumor, as it seems to originate from an official Weibo account, called “Pepsi phone.” The account is relatively new and categorized under the “IT / electronics / mobile phone manufacturers” segment.
However, the source doesn’t reveal any concrete data regarding the mysterious phone and its whereabouts, except the header itself.
Even if a Pepsi phone is assumed to be in the works, it will most likely be a rebranded product manufactured by any one of the numerous handset makers (possibly from China). After all, PepsiCo China obviously does not have the expertise to design and manufacture its own mobile products.
Or, we might be digging too much into this when, in reality, the company could simply be planning to run some sort of contest involving smartphones. Well, there could be various other possibilities than the launch of a rebranded handset. We can’t be sure about anything at the moment.
We’ll keep an eye out and let you know as soon as the story develops.
