More Details Regarding Asus ROG Matrix GTX 980 Ti Platinum Emerge
In yesterday’s Republic of Gamers Unleashed press event, Asus announced a number of new products one of which is the earlier reported graphics card in their Matrix lineup. The lineup, known for its highly customized GPUs will be adding Nvidia’s GTX 980 Ti to its roster.
The Asus ROG Matrix GTX 980 Ti Platinum will feature a custom designed PCB and a power delivery subsystem with 14 phase power regulation that will allow it to reach higher yet stable clock speeds. Only the cream of the crop GPUs are selected for Matrix cards and the chips are vetted by Asus employees themselves personally, according to the company.
To keep the card cool, Asus equipped the Matrix GTX 980 Ti Platinum with a customized DirectCU II cooler, which features 10 mm copper heat pipes. They’ve have been coated in black to help them blend in with the shroud design. Although it put the DirectCU II cooler on this card, most Matrix GTX 980 Ti Platinum cards will likely spend their life hooked up to a more exotic cooling solution.
The GPU also features a defrosting feature to keep the condensation in check under subzero temperatures.
There is also a safe mode BIOS in the card that should help users recover their GPU if they manage to push the overclock settings too. Using the feature will automatically revert the card to factory default settings (though it’s still unclear what those will be).
The previous Matrix card, the Asus Matrix GTX 980 Platinum, featured a set of LED lights that changed color under different load patterns. Asus has equipped the Matrix GTX 980 Ti Platinum with a similar feature, though the lights are RGB this time around, letting you customize the different modes to any color you’d like.
