MSI Announces Two New Intel Skylake Workstation Laptops
The demand for bulky laptops has seen a rapid fall as slim and smart Ultrabooks have dominated the market for the past three years.
That’s not stopping MSI from launching a couple of new powerhouses though. The electronics firm has announced a pair of workstation laptops that boast Intel’s latest Skylake series of processors and Nvidia’s most recent Quadro GPUs.
The top-of-the-line model termed as WT72, equipped with a large 17.3 inch FHD display. It comes with an Intel i7-6700HQ quad core processor or an optional Xeon chip, and a choice of one of M3000M, M4000M or M5000M Quadro GPUs from Nvidia.
The lighter, smaller version is the WS60, which boasts a 15.3 inch FHD display. It features the same processor options, but you get limited choices as far as the Quadro GPUs are concerned. There’s the optional Quadro M1000M with 2 GB of GDDR5, or an M2000M with 4 GB of memory.
Both of these workstation laptops use LED panels featuring MSI’s True Color Technology for accurate image production. For storage, both workstations contain SSDs for the main OS and an additional 1TB SATA hard-drive. The WS60 has an M.2 SSD, while the WT72 uses a Gen3x4 NVMe SSD.
Another key feature in both models is what MSI calls a ‘super port’. This is a USB 3.1 port with a USB Type-C interface that supports up to two external 4K displays as well as charging capabilities up to 5V/3A.
The WT72 workstation starts at $2,099.99 and the WS60 starts $1,899.99.
