Hundreds of Smuggled iPhone 6S Seized in India
It appears that the launch of Apple’s latest smartphone has increased the workload of custom authorities all over the globe. For instance, it has been reported very recently that hundreds of iPhone 6S and 6S Plus models have been seized by the airport custom authorities in India.
The shipment of smuggled iPhone models was caught at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai where the authorities were already on a high alert ever since Apple unleashed the new model.
A total of about 200 iPhone 6S and 6S Plus models have been captured due to non-custom payment over a period of two weeks. What is more important is that these are figures from just one airport in the country.
Right now, passengers in India are being advised to voluntarily declare their assets and pay the custom at airports. Failure to do so would result in a heavy penalty being imposed which will be additional to the custom fee.
The primary origins of these illegally transported iPhones include Singapore, Istanbul, Hong Kong, Dubai, London, Bangkok and Johannesburg.
iPhones is India are relatively expensive as compared to their prices in the west which is why some of the smugglers also try to rake in stock alongside individuals who are trying to save a little by bringing an iPhone 6S along from abroad.
