Microsoft’s HoloLens To Ship in Q1 2016, Will Cost an Arm and Leg
Everyone is jumping on the Augmented and Virtual Reality bandwagon, and many companies like Sony and Microsoft are ready to ship their AR/VR devices. Sony will ship Project Morpheus, now know as PlayStation VR, while Microsoft will release HoloLens.
PlayStation VR is expected to cost around $400, which is an acceptable price for such a product. However, Hololens will cost users an arm and leg. Microsoft has announced that HoloLens will release in Q1 2016 with a price tag of $3,000.
That means an average consumers won’t be able to afford HoloLens, and it will only be in reach of enthusiasts. HoloLens offers an AR experience compared to PlayStation’s VR.
HoloLens is an amazing product that delivers great experience as we have seen in the past demonstrations, but it is certainly not worth $3,000. Meanwhile, Sony has a better chance at success with PlayStation VR. The only thing Sony needs is developer support and they are good to go.
Price of Microsoft’s HoloLens was revealed during an event earlier, where we were also given a look at a demo for Project X-Ray. It is an AR game that allows users to hold holographic weapons to take on the enemy.
