Xiaomi Confirmed to be Working on a Notebook; Shipping to Start in First-Half of 2016
Xiaomi is indeed manufacturing a laptop which is scheduled to start shipping in the first half of 2016.
The china-based company which is notable for budget smartphones, smart TVs, a smart band, and other products has now been confirmed to be creating a notebook, according to Inventec – the company’s one of many manufacturing partners.
While speaking with TaipaiTimes; Inventec’s chairman Richard Lee confirmed that the laptop is not only in development, but will also start shipping in the first half of 2016:
I am upbeat about the business outlook for Xiaomi’s notebook computers, as the firm has more than 200 million registered smartphone users.
Lee also noted that Xiaomi may keep the tradition of selling budget products intact with the upcoming notebook as it has with its smartphone line-up:
I am not sure if the smartphone approach will be applicable to notebooks, but I expect Xiaomi’s entry into the notebook industry to bring something new to the market.
As for the tentative shipping date, it has also been confirmed by Lee to be the first or second quarter of 2016:
We will start shipping Xiaomi’s notebook computers in the first or second quarter of next year.
At first, the shipping will only be restricted to China which will hopefully extend to other territories across the world since the company has plans to sell its products in U.S. and U.K. starting later this year.
As for possible system specifications and compatible operating system details, nothing has been revealed thus far.
