Imgur Vulnerability Lets Users DDoS 4Chan and 8Chan
Imgur has found a vulnerability in its system that allowed DDoS attacks on 4Chan and 8Chan. It allowed users to put malicious code in an image’s link, these links were then used to leverage real user browsers to DDoS.
However, the good news is that Imgur has fixed the issue, so there is nothing to worry about from now on.
In a statement, Imgur said:
Yesterday a vulnerability was discovered that made it possible to inject malicious code into an image link on Imgur. From our team’s analysis, it appears the exploit was targeted specifically to users of 4chan and 8chan via images shared to a specific sub-reddit on Reddit.com using Imgur’s image hosting and sharing tools.
Imgur further wrote in a post that users should clear their browsing data, cookies and localstorage.
The vulnerability was patched yesterday evening and we’re no longer serving affected images, but as a precaution we recommend that you clear your browsing data, cookies, and localstorage.
You can read more about the issue, here. Imgur says that it will keep fans updated with further developments as it learns more about this parasitic DDoS tool.
