HBM2 for Nvidia Pascal GPU to Come from SK Hynix, Samsung Both
While news made it to the internet recently that AMD has a priority over Nvidia Pascal GPU when it comes to SK Hynix for the development of HBM2, we have picked up word that they are not going to be the sole buyers.
We have picked up word that not only SK Hynix but Samsung Electronics as well will be mass producing HBM2 for Nvidia. Yes, you can rest assured fans.
The second-gen High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) is expected to start the mass production by first quarter of 2016 which means by mid next year we will have things heating up in the news.
However, before they can actually ship HBM2 for Nvidia Pascal GPU, both Samsung ELectronics and SK Hynix will be focusing on reliability tests.
Interestingly, AMD despite securing the supply before Nvidia has not outlined their future uses for the technology although Nvidia has by listing it as 3D memory in their Pascal roadmap.
