Apple Unveils 12.9″ iPad Pro, With Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil
At its “Hey Siri” media event in San Francisco, Apple today officially unveiled the “the fastest tablet” it has ever made. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro is based on a new A9X 64-bit chip offering 1.8 times the desktop performance of its predecessor.
Not only that, the Cupertino giant claims that the device has 80% faster performance and 90% faster graphics over portable PCs and contains 10 hours of battery life.
Apple’s mega tablet measures 6.9mm thick and weighs 1.57 pounds. It has a resolution of 2732 x 2048 (5.6 million pixels), which is more than any iOS device and even the MacBook Pro with Retina display.
The tablet also packs 4 high-quality speakers that balance frequencies and deliver up to three times the audio level of the iPad Air 2. Moreover, the device includes 802.11ac with MIMO and an 8MP iSight camera.
The iPad Pro comes with two accessories. The first is a Microsoft Surface-like Smart Keyboard, which Apple claims is “unlike any keyboard you’ve used before.” The Smart Keyboard connects magnetically to the iPad Pro’s new three-dot Smart Connector and is great for typists.
The second is Apple Pencil that is designed to help artists and content creators make extremely detailed pieces. The Pencil is built using technology that can detect position, tilt and force. Moreover, it has the ability to enable precision that allows artists to touch a single pixel.
Apple Pencil will cost $99 while the Smart Keyboard has a retail price of $169. Both will be available alongside the new iPad Pro.
The iPad Pro is set to hit shelves in November in silver, space gray and gold, with base model (32GB Wi-Fi only) priced at $799. A 128GB Wi-Fi only model will cost $949 while a Wi-Fi + LTE 128GB model will cost $1,079.
