Only Two Intel Skylake CPUs Can Be Overclocked
Intel Skylake Core i7-6700K and Core i5-6600K are already available in the market, and now the company is getting ready to release more variants soon.
Intel will offer 10 different Skylake variants, which means there will be something for everyone. However, if you are a PC builders who love to overclock their chips, you won’t be left with many options.
To be specific, you will only have two Skylake models that can be overclocked. Below is the full list of Skylake chips offered by Intel:
- Intel Core i7-6700T
- Intel Core i5-6600T
- Intel Core i5-6500T
- Intel Core i5-6400T
- Intel Core i7-6700
- Intel Core i5-6600
- Intel Core i5-6500
- Intel Core i5-6400
- Intel Core i7-6700K
- Intel Core i5-6600K
As you can see, there are only two models with a “K,” meaning only i7-6700K and i5-6600K are capable of overclocking. On the other hand, i7-6700 is 3.4GHz with 4GHz boost which makes it a decent alternative to 6700K. However, it would have been better to have more options in the OC department.
We hope Intel knows what it’s doing because I don’t think fans would take this too well. Do you think Intel should have offered more variants of Skylake “K” models?
