WhatsApp for Android Gets a Series of Five Updates in 24 Hrs
WhatsApp has recently been on an update releasing spree as it rolled out no less than five updates to its Android app in last 24 hours. This resulted in bumping the WhatsApp for Android version v2.12.189 to v2.12.194.
This very succession of updates brought several new features to Android users of the most widely used instant messaging app, the most interesting of which is the custom notifications settings for individual contacts or groups. The feature lets users customize the notification sounds for specific conversations, so that they could recognize the sender of the message even before unlocking the smartphone.
The custom notifications settings can be found in a contact’s or group’s detail page just below the media box. Here you’ll be able to set custom notification tones, popup notification, the notification light and tune the vibration length. You also have the option to mute notifications for a time, or turn off notifications altogether.
The new updates also bring the much-anticipated mark as unread feature that allows users to mark a coversation as unread although this only takes effect at the receiver’s end. The message will still show up as read to sender.
Another important addition is the low data mode for voice calls, which comes handy at locations where there is limited connectivity.
The most recent version of WhatsApp for Android is yet to hit Play Store. But if you can’t wait to get your hands on these new features, head over to WhatsApp’s official page to receive the latest update.
