Nokia Here to Be Purchased for $2.7B by Audi, BMW, Diamler
You might look down upon Nokia for being pushed down in the race of smartphones but you have to give them due credit for some of the technologies they own.
For instance, Nokia Here, the mapping service which is currently being pegged as something that would be an integral part of driverless cars i.e. the future of transportation!
We have picked up word that not one but three companies are going to get into a joint venture and purchase the technology from Nokia together.
The companies in question that are expected to buy off Nokia Here are BMW, Audi and Diamler and reports suggest they are putting a price tag of $2.7 billion on the technology.
While none of the sources for this news are official and remain anonymous, they do claim we will be hearing of it in the coming future as the deal might get signed in a few days.
Not just that it is also rumored that the three companies are also inviting other car manufacturers to buy a stake in the technology – even Uber was in the race buy dropped out some days ago.
You might think that $2.7 billion is a big amount but apparently Nokia was eyeing a bigger paycheck, something to the tunes of $4 billion. If that is true and no one is willing to pay as much for Nokia Here, they are bound to be disappointed with the arrangement.
It will be interesting to see how these companies co-own the technology and still compete in the market with the products they are going to make using Nokia Here.
