Oculus Developer Talks Exclusive Titles For VR Devices
Not every game will have support for VR, and in order to gain success, VR devices will need exclusive titles to make fans more interested in the product.
Speaking about exclusive titles during a Reddit AMA, Oculus founder Palmer Luckey said they are essentially first party titles, and are funded by them.
These exclusive titles, in many ways, essentially are first party titles. They are funded by us, we have our own staff working on them, and they are optimized around our launch timeline and tech stack. The only difference is that we chose to work with third parties to make them successful instead of competing with them through our own first party teams
The tactic of securing exclusive titles was criticised by many, but Luckey clarified that Oculus isn’t the only company using such strategy.
He said that in order to fully show the power of VR devices, exclusive titles are important. He explained that the only way VR industry can move forward quickly, is by showing what these devices are capable of.
Currently, VR market is among the most emerging markets of the tech world, but in order for it to thrive, such tactics are necessary for the time being. At least that’s what Luckey wants us to believe.
The only way technology can move forward quickly is for technology creators to make content that showcases what their hotrod hardware can really do when unencumbered by compromises.
Oculus launches sometime in 2016, will you be picking it up?
