Rumor: Nvidia and MediaTek To Merge For Automotive Industry
Tech industry and rumors have had a long history, this time around it is revolving around a merger between Nvidia and MediaTek in order to take down the automotive chip industry.
Workstation and desktop graphics processor manufacturers are already providing the automotive industry with chips. This news, in particular, states that both of these companies are targeting the industry.
Nvidia and MediaTek, both are strong enough on their own in their respective genre of production. Qualcomm’s position in mobile chipset is already being threatened by MediaTek especially after the introduction of Helio SoC lineup. The Helio series chips are super strong and have their own LTE modems.
According to a source, MediaTek has declined to comment on the issue, which means that there is a possibility that the company is thinking of a merger. According to Economic Daily News (EDN), both the companies might work together in future.
Rumors have circulated among investors that MediaTek is mulling some form of collaboration including a merger with Nvidia, which manufactures GPUs as well as SoC solutions for mobile devices. The two companies might work together to expand into the car-use market.
Nvidia produces powerful desktop and laptop GPUs but isn’t far ahead in the SoC business. Whereas MediaTek is just behind Qulacomm and it is doing pretty well.
Car manufacturers such as Skoda, Audi and Volkswagen are already in a business with Nvidia as the company is proving them with chips. Tegra X1 was recently introduced by Nvidia and it has no competition as of now.
