Radeon R9 Fury X Not Only Works in 4-way CrossFire, But Also 8-way Under Linux
Recently, a report was published according to which the latest flagship card in AMD R9 Fury X can work in 4-way CrossFire without any issue.
But that is not the end of the story, according to AMD’s spokesperson it can also work easily in 8-way CrossFire but only under Linux. Now the question is how you are going to get your hands on to so many Fury X cards that are limited in the market.
TweakTown was reportedly present at the unveiling event of AMD Radeon R9 Fury X in Australia. A reporter asked Richard Huddy, AMD’s Chief Gaming Scientist, whether Fury X can work in 4 way CrossFire. Huddy replied positively.
He also added that the gaming team back at the office has been using such configuration and been playing games in 8-way CrossFire setup under Linux. He further added that even if huge cases are used, still the setup of this configuration can be hectic considering the use of AiO cooling solution. He did not quite clearly answer the later though.
Seeing the AMD Radeon R9 Fury X configured like this will be cool although it’s highly doubtful that any performance gains could be derived out of these. The thing is that this chip is available in market in limited number, so getting 8 chips is highly unlikely.
For now, most people are testing the chips and sending out reviews and most of them are turning out to be positive. Let’s hope that AMD actually performs well with at least this one, otherwise it might be the end of the road for them.
