Popcorn Time Crosses 1 Million Downloads on iOS
Popcorn Time, or the Netflix for Torrents, just crossed its 1 million download tag ‘few days ago’ on non-jailbroken iOS devices, reports VentureBeat. It has reportedly been downloaded nearly 1.1 million times.
Team Popcorn Time told the source that they are extremely proud of what they have achieved. They say that this is the only app that has not been approved by Apple and can still be downloaded on non-jailbroken iOS devices. The Popcorn Time team told VentureBeat:
Popcorn Time, so it seems, is the most downloaded mobile app outside the Google and Apple stores. And we take huge pride in this. This is us, this is what we’ve created and it’s fucking breaking records. But the silver lining of this whole thing, what’s even bigger in our perspective, is the fact that Popcorn Time is the only app in the *world* that can be installed on non-jailbroken iOS devices outside [Apple’s] app store.
Two months back the company figured out a way of trespassing Apple security using an iOS installer that sneaks the Popcorn Time built right into the devices without the devices’ security detecting it. Currently 10 countries have had the highest number of downloads. They include Netherlands at 19.14 percent, United States at 17.62 percent, Brazil, France, Norway, Mexico, United Kingdom, Canada, Belgium and Spain at 2.06 percent.
This achievement we stand behind, that even though we’ve had so many huge achievements this year, we all here agree that this achievement — this is the tip of the iceberg. This is the cherry on top. This is the most exciting achievement we never thought was even possible when we just picked up this project.
iOS users are not just interested in getting the app, they have been super eager about it and have already downloaded it a million time.
