Samsung Galaxy Devices Getting an Update to Deal With Keyboard Exploit
The popular smartphone maker, Samsung, is working on a new update that will deal with the custom keyboard exploit on plenty of Samsung Galaxy devices.
The company released in a new statement, that the update will release via security policy update mechanism in Knox, and not by the a complete system update, so consider it a hotfix.
Samsung says that the company takes such security threats very seriously and are committed to providing better security.
Samsung Knox has the capability to update the security policy of the phones, over-the-air, to invalidate any potential vulnerabilities caused by this issue. The security policy updates will begin rolling out in a few days. In addition to the security policy update, we are also working with SwiftKey to address potential risks going forward.
The issue lies in the way language update packs are delivered to smartphone devices. What happens is that if users are connected to an unsafe access point, and updating the language packs, a hacker can payload anything flagitious.
While the chances of this happening are remote and plenty of things will have to line-up at once for this to work for any hacker, still, Samsung wants to make sure they have covered all bases.
