Xbox Elite Controller: Will It Erode Even-handedness From Console Gaming?
Ask any avid video gamer what he likes the most about console gaming, and he will tell you it’s the equality of specs. What is so enjoyable in having the same specs? Well, simply the ability to compete with all those who have far greater resources.
The resourcefulness works to benefit folks in case of PC gaming. Because with more money, they can afford much better hardware than their less resourceful competitors.
All this inequality, so to speak, in possessing specs, impairs the skills of those who do not have faster graphics card, more RAM, more accurate mouse, keyboard, etc. Then the question arises: can this be justified? In my opinion, it can’t be. In my opinion it’s unfair.
Now let’s join the preceding argument with Microsoft’s recent announcement of the Xbox Elite controller. I’d be a liar if I wasn’t praising its design and amazing features. But I couldn’t be less of a liar if I was not considering it something that will emasculate the real enchanting feature of console games–the equality of specs. Why? Its price is $149.99. Do I need to defend myself anymore?
Redmond has a different point of view, which I’ll leave for your interpretation. According to Microsoft:
In close collaboration with professional gamers, Microsoft created the Xbox Elite Controller — a pro controller designed to take gaming to the next level. Players can customize everything from trigger sensitivity to button mapping to game-specific setups, and use it with their Xbox One and Windows 10 devices with a custom app that offers gamers the opportunity to further modify the controller for any gaming scenario. The controller features a premium design that guarantees long-lasting quality with stainless steel features that are built to withstand hours of intense gameplay.
Also, watch this video in which Microsoft is promising “pro-level precision” and “game-changing accuracy.”
It doesn’t need someone to be a genius to comprehend what “pro-level precision” and “game-changing accuracy” means. Simply put, if you own the Elite controller, and I compete with you with my traditional controller, you will beat me hard, you will kill me. How? With additional rear paddles, changeable d-pads and trigger sensitivity.
