Unity 5.1 With VR Support is Available Now for Download
The multi-platform, efficient and powerful, cue drum roll, the Unity 5.1 is ready for you to download, the ultimate Unity Engine has been allying with the VR (Virtual Reality) technology for quite some time now. Only this year with the introduction of Unity 5.1 it introduces features that can align well with VR developers and users.
Last year it launched the support for Oculus Rift HMD (Head Mounted Display) to Unity 4 for both versions i.e. pro and free. Earlier in 2015 when the company released Unity 5 this feature and support only extended. With Unity 5.1 coming out this year they have taken the legacy further.
In a blog post the company writes that this is not the end of VR and Unity Engine, lots more is to come from the franchise.
“There will be much more to come from us in the VR space. So stay tuned, and don’t forget that there are lots of third-party SDKs available for those looking to target other headsets!”
The ‘highly optimized’ depicted pipeline has been added to the 5.1 version Unity in regards to both devices; VR and AR (augmented reality). The newest and badass addition is the support for native Oculus Rift HMD. Now it enables developers to directly connect their development kits and use it.
The updates coming out with the Unity version 5.1 will allow the developers working with the franchise to up the user experience. It has fixed nearly 170 bugs, a new Unity Multi-player Service has been introduced along with the Cloud Build for Mercurial source control.
