How to Update Nexus 6 to Pre-rooted Stock Android 5.1.1 Lollipop LMY47Z
The official Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OTA has been released for the Google Nexus 6. However, currently the firmware update is only available for the US Cellular and Sprint models of the device, which means the unlocked variants won’t be able to taste the latest Lollipop notification.
Moreover, the OTA update can be received only if you’re running stock Android OS on your Nexus 6, ruling out the rooted versions as well.
But thanks to a recognized XDA developer, Danvdh, who has released a pre-rooted version of stock Android 5.1.1 build LMY47Z, for all those who are unable to receive the actual stock Lollipop firmware released by Google. The firmware is rooted with SuperSU and contains Busybox and decrypted boot.img.
As this is a stock ROM, users will not have to flash Gapps and other official features separately.
The following guide will walk you through all the steps required to install this stock, though rooted, Android 5.1.1 OS on your Nexus 6.
- Your Nexus 6 must be rooted, or else you won’t be able to add a custom ROM.
- The booatloader of the device should be unlocked.
- A custom recovery image, such as CWM or TWRP recovery, must be installed on your phone.
- Make sure you back up the important data and settings on the device as this process might wipe out everything.

Install Pre-rooted Stock Android 5.1.1 Lollipop LMY47Z on Nexus 6
First things first, download Android 5.1 LMY47Z rooted ROM on your PC from the above link. Save this file on desktop and don’t unzip it.
Connect your Nexus 6 to the computer via the USB cable and transfer the downloaded file to the internal storage of the phone.
When done, unplug the USB cable and power off your handset.
Download TWRP recovery and then enter recovery mode on your Android device.
For that purpose, hold Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneously until the Google logo appears. Then release the Power button, but keep holding the Volume Down button. The phone will be in Bootloader Mode. Press Volume Down twice, and you’ll see the Recovery option. Once there, press Power button to reboot into recovery mode.
Now, perform full wipe by clicking “wipe data factory reset,” then “wipe cache partition” followed by “wipe dalvik cache.”
After that, go to the main menu of recovery and select “install zip from SD card.”
Load the LMY47Z Android 5.1.1 Lollipop firmware and install the update on your Nexus 6.
Once the installation process is completed, reboot the phone. To do that, go back to main menu of recovery and select “reboot system now.”
Now, you should have your Google Nexus 6 successfully updated to pre-rooted LMY47Z Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS. Enjoy!
