A Bug Crashes iPhone With A Small Arabic Text
Pranksters have reportedly developed a new iOS bug that can crash iPhone with a simple looking Arabic text.
Seemingly simple Unicode characters, when reach Apple’s iOS Messages app, can lock up the app or cause the iPhone to restart and crash the Springboard.
Some Reddit users have tried to figure out the system crash and have analyzed iOS Unicode handling. They have concluded that, although the users see just one sentence on their iPhone screens, the Unicode characters are part of a long string that can not be fully rendered in Notifications.
“Every character you use has a unicode value which tells your phone what to display. One of the unicode values is actually never-ending and so when the phone tries to read it it goes into an infinite loop which crashes it,” a user ‘protocol13‘ writes on Reddit.
When the code enters the device, iPhone users open the Unicode on the lock screen or as a drop-down notification. The iPhone tries to use its resources to render the entire string and, in this way, spring board is crashed. They Reddit feeders note that the issue is related to iOS Notifications as the code is ineffective when send or receive as a usual message.
Some strategies have been shared on Reddit to battle the bug. One of the effective fixes can be to transmit a picture from photos or to send a massage using Share Sheets. Another recommendation is to turn off Messages previews for Notifications. However, news source AppleInsider has found it inefficacious.
