More Information Arrives For Samsung’s Next-Gen SmartWatch
It has come to light that the next-generation smartwatch from Samsung will feature a circular display, unlike its current Gear models and the Apple Watch.
In the latest build of the Gear developer kit, it was revealed that the device – codenamed Orbis – will sport a metal crown and frame. This rounded 1.18-inch, 360×360 px display, is said to serve as an answer to the Apple Watch, and is key to its interface navigation.
According to a report from SamMobile, Samsung’s new smartwatch will be controlled by turning the display bezel, and not the crown. This is also shown with several images stored within the developer tools which show users twisting the bezel to switch between different views or access different controls.
One image shows the user multitasking by switching between multiple apps. Another image ties in with this, suggesting that users can swipe to multitask functions.
Other images showcase additional functions, such as volume controls, zooming on photos, scrolling through a list of contacts, choosing an item from a menu, and selecting individual characters on a unique circular keyboard.
