Tron: Legacy Light Cycle Replica Sells for $77,000
Tron: Legacy must have some strange magic over a fan, which was apparently strong enough for him to drop $77,000 on a replica of the movie’s light cycle.
Put up for auction at SotheBy’s by father and son collectors Paul and Chris Andrews, no one was expecting the motorcycle to fetch such a large sum. On May 2, the fully functional two-wheeler, housing a 96 volt electric motor with lithium batteries and a computer controlled throttle, was acquired for almost double the expected sale value.
The replica is amazingly detailed, and looks like it just came right through the big movie screen. Most important part of its aesthetics, though, is that the bike perfectly lights up to recreate the same look from Tron: Legacy. You definitely know that the new owner is going to be taking his purchase out for a ride at night.
The light cycle was only part of the auction of Andrews Collection which also included various other model car engines and customized classic vehicles. In total, the entire collection fetched $53,887,585.
