Original Snake Creator Brings You Snake Rewind
Taneli Armanto, the original creator of the classic mobile game Snake, is now working with Rumilus Design to create a new Snake game for current-age smartphones.
Called Snake Rewind, the new version is being built completely from scratch and promises “iconic elements and intuitive gameplay from the original.”
According to Armanto, Snake Rewind is being designed to cater the new generation of mobile gamers. Aside from boasting new visual and sound effects to give it a more modern feel, the game will also introduce fruit power-ups. Collecting these will earn you points, which can then be spent in the store to purchase upgrades for your snake.
Players will also be able to rewind their gameplay, in case they hit an obstacle. There will be leaderboards for you and your friends to regularly check out, probably different themes to go along with new stages, Facebook connectivity, and more.
Snake Rewind will release on May 14 for the iOS, Android, and Windows Phone devices. The game will launch with ten levels. At this point, it’s uncertain whether the game will release for free, be free-to-play but supported by micro-transactions (boosts), or carry a price point.
The classic version of the game had players guiding a snake across the screen to eat up fruits. Upon doing so, not only you gained points, but your snake also grew in length. Ultimately, the goal was to survive as long as possible without the growing snake bumping into itself or an obstacle.
