Guild Wars 2 Dev Gives In-Game Death Sentence to Hacker
We have all played games sometime in our spare time and usually the term badass is related to the players doing stuff in the game whether legitimately or illegitimately.
However, the developers of Guild Wars 2, ArenaNet have gone above and beyond the norms in their own way to punish a hacker who, by using some of the in-game exploits, was making life harder for the rest of the community.
After the fans gathered together and protested, Chris Cleary, the game security lead singled out the hacker, hacked into his account, stripped and gave a death sentence to the in-game character, killed it and banned the user.
Cleary, after doing all that, took to the official forums of Guild Wars 2 with this message and a video link showing the fate of the hacker’s character:
We don’t need to see it in-game, sometimes good video evidence is enough for me to track down who it was. In this case, the video was enough for me to find out who it was and take action. Thanks for the video, and to accompany your video, I give you this video of his account’s last moments. Oh yah, he’s also banned.
You can check out the video at the link given above.
Guild Wars 2, like many other MMORPGs is not free of glitches and hackers who take unfair advantages every now and then. This guy who got his ass handed in-game was but one of the many who should be stopped. However, don’t you think doing something like this really sends a good message?
In-game death sentences, what do you think?
