Oculus Rift headset Coming to Market
If we were to say that a gadget manipulating reality and taking virtual reality to whole new level is coming to our markets soon, what will be your guess. Well, Oculus is the obvious winner, of course. Oculus Rift announced this Wednesday that Oculus VR headset will be coming out in the first quarter of next year.
The preorders will begin by the end of this year. The company released two images of the ultimate head gear, it still looks huge and bulky though. This isn’t just another prototype; these are the real images although they are expected to be lighter than they look.
Facebook’s Oculus is trying to create the maximum mystery as the newly released images show the whole thing but is missing on the price tag and specifications. HTC and Samsung will be shipping their head gears this year while Oculus and Sony will take the bench in 2016, leaving Microsoft’s HoloLens (don’t know when that is coming out).
Facebook bought Oculus VR last year at the crowd-funding campaign, Kickstarter for $2 billion. It debuted almost three years back for $300 in form of developer kits, those were heavy and uncomfortable although these are expected to be lighter and easy to wear.
The Oculus gives both sitting and standing virtual experiences to the users, but that does not mean that you start running around the place with that thing on. It still is a 3D gadget attached to your face and covering your eyes.
So whether the Oculus Rift headset will survive the tough market or not depends on the kind of experience it provides and the kind of money the company asks. For now our speculation is, it might only serve as purposeful to the diehard gadget lovers.
