The Motion Picture Association Threatens Torrent Sites With Possible Legal Action
Well, it seems the war between the Motion Picture Association and torrent sites like The Pirate Bay, Kickass torrents and more is getting bit more serious.
The MPA is made up of six of the top movie studios including Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures; Paramount Pictures Corporation; Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc.; Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation; Universal City Studios LLC; and Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.
I don’t recall the MPA directly contacting such sites, but they have done so now. The MPA is threatening torrents sites with possible legal actions if they don’t shut down their activities in 24 hours.
This Notice requires you to immediately (within 24 hours) take effective measures to end and prevent further copyright infringement. All opportunities provided by the Website to download, stream or otherwise obtain access to the Entertainment Content should be disabled permanently.
Before now, MPA took a more indirect approach and contacted ISPs to warn and punish such offenders.
Google is also often asked to remove listings.
On the flip side of the coin, these threats seem to have no effect on these sites as all of them are up and running. It is unlikely these sites will take this seriously, so we can expect MPA to take legal action against them in the near future.
We’ll let you know what MPA’s next move will be.
