Android Games Will Earn More Than iOS Games By 2018
Android games are likely to generate more revenue than iOS games by 2018, Digi-Capital reveals.
Traditionally, iPhone and iPad owners spend more money for apps as compared to the Android users. However, the downloading ratio per app is greater on Google Play as compared to the Apple App Store. But because of the lavish spending of Apple’s raving fans, Google play has remained second–a trend which, according to the advisory firm Digi-Capital, is changing now.
“So while in 2018, iOS should still have the highest mobile games revenue of any one individual app store globally,” Digi-Capital founder and managing director Tim Merel wrote in his report, “mobile games revenue from all Android app stores combined could top iOS. In other words, Android could make more money for games developers than iOS by 2018. And that’s a big deal.”
The massive revenue jump for Android is being anticipated in the context of its growing popularity in China. Google is almost absent when it comes to the China market but there are other non-Google Android app dealers, including Baidu, Qihoo 360, Tencent, and Wandoujia, that have become dominating forces in the vast Chinese market. Hence, even if Android surpasses iOS, Google profits may not have any extraordinary surge.
The founder of the advisory firms believes that Apple’s app market has certain advantages over Android, which the former will retain even if it looses some market share to Android. “Yet iOS remains the easier app store for monetization per download,” wrote Merel. “It takes over two downloads on Google Play and over eight downloads on Chinese Android app stores to make the same amount of money as one iOS download.”
