Nvidia Shield Tablet And Shield Portable To Get Android 5.1 Update
Nvidia’s forum administrators have revealed that they are working on Android 5.1 update for Shield Tablet and Shield Portable. The administrators have not mentioned any time frame but they have assured the fans that the two devices will be getting the latest Android update.
The Nvidia Shield Tablet is already running on Android 5.0 Lollipop so users will not experience a drastic change after the update. Google has mentioned that their focus in Android 5.1 update was on fixing minor bugs that came with Android 5.0 and improving performance rather than introducing new features. Still, the 5.1 update brings some interesting features with it.
“We have identified and fixed many of these issues in an upcoming OTA release,” said Peter of Nvidia Customer Care. “In addition to new features and improved security, Android 5.1 provides an overall snappier end user experience.”
On the other hand, Nvidia Shield Portable is still running Android 4.4 KitKat. Hence, a direct update to Android 5.1 will be a huge upgrade for Shield Portable users.
The users on Nvidia’s forums demanded the latest version of Android, especially those who have Shield Portable as they feel left out of the Lollipop experience. The fans were cheered up by a welcoming response from the administrators who broke out the news of releasing Android 5.1 update for both devices.
“We decided to move to Android L 5.1 MR1 for the first Android L based OTA update for the Shield Portable,” said a representative of Nvidia.
TechTimes believes that it is “highly likely” that Nvidia will release the latest Android update for its two devices before Google’s own Nexus 9.
