HBO Now Users From Outside U.S to be Blocked After Game of Thrones Fiasco
Well, it appears that the mega leak of Game of Thrones Season 5 episodes has had a much larger impact on things than one would have originally expected.
Although other services like Netflix are still playing it cool, HBO Now is not. In fact, they have sent out emails to thousands of subscribers from outside the US stating clearly that they had detected the use of certain software that allowed the content to be viewed outside the country.
The ones among you who are doing so should get ready to get deactivated.
It has come to our attention that you may have signed up for and viewed video content on the HBO NOW streaming service from outside of the authorized service area (the United States, including D.C. and certain US territories).
HBO Now also stated that users had until April 21 i.e. today to respond if they thought there had been a mistake. Those who have no proof that there has been a mistake will automatically get blocked from using the services of HBO.
HBO’s warnings to Game of Thrones pirates have made it to the news previously, but back then they were requesting ISPs to block the internet services to the pirates. Looks like they are not going to sit back until they are sure the content is safe from piracy – tough call I must add.
