Windows 10 Preview Version Pulled After Low-End Smartphones Bricked
So far, Windows 10 has seen decent reception and there were no serious complaints to come out of its preview. However, that has now changed as Windows 10 is reportedly causing serious issues on some low-end Lumia phones.
Due to the severity of the issue, Microsoft has pulled Windows 10 preview build. So if you are an owner of a low-end Lumia phone, you will no longer be able to download the technical preview of Microsoft’s latest OS.
Devices which were reportedly having problems are those who tried go back to Windows 8.1. Rolling back to the previous version of Windows wasn’t a piece of cake. Some reports suggest that Lumia phones were bricked while rolling back to Windows 8.1, Ouch!
Microsoft on the other hands released the following statement:
We are seeing some reports of failures on Lumia 520/525/526 devices when trying to roll back to Windows Phone 8.1 using the Windows Phone Recovery Tool. We are pausing build availability for these devices temporarily while we investigate the issue and work with customers who have reported problems.
It’s actually a good thing, because if something like this would have happened after the release of Windows 10, it would have been a disaster. Having preview programs is really important these days because softwares are becoming bigger and more complex, but at the same time they have become unreliable.
Testing things out before full release is the way to go and Microsoft will definitely fix this problem and provide a better version of Windows 10.
There haven’t been any reports suggesting a similar issue with high-end Lumia phones, so we can assume all is good. If you are having issues with your Lumia phone, let us know of your model and how it happened in the comments below.
