gamesGRABR Reaches New Level After Successful Crowdfunding
gamesGRABR, a UK-based social network for gamers, has raised £450,000 ($665,000) as venture money in its second attempt of crowdfunding via Crowdcube.
Crowdcube has appeared as a strong alternative platform for the startups to embark early stage funding campaigns. The platform follows a different approach as compared to its competitors sites like KickStarter to potential investors as it renders equity instead of rewards.
In first round of fundraising, U.K.-based gaming expert Tony Pearce bagged £175,000 for development stage of the gamesGRABR. Pearce is an entrepreneur and CEO of the 2010 funded startup TeePee Games, the startup which is operating gamesGRABR project.
gamesGRABR was launched in Beta a year ago. The platform has become very popular in a span of 1 year. According to Pearce, the site is now getting “upwards of 100,000 unique users per month.”
gamesGRABR is being regarded as ‘Pinterest for games.’ Visitors are served with a massive repository of games with option to curate their favorite games themselves. The platform open doors for gamers’s mutual interaction so they might talk to each other before buying or playing a game.
The games’ collection for the site is increasing with every passing day: currently there are about 70,000 distinct games with a constant daily addition of 800 games. The real attention catcher for the site is its ‘GRAB’ button browser plug-in, very similar to Pinterest
The company gives YouTube vloggers for successful fund raising. “As for crowdfunding, well it works well for us, the gaming community and our very nature relies on peer-to-peer recommendations; that in turn gives us exposure to potential new shareholders,” said Tony Pearce.
