Mr. Jump is the New Viral Hit, Goes Past 10 Million Download in 2 Weeks
It’s hard to believe that Mr. Jump, a new crazy difficult game on App Store, went past 5 million downloads in the first week of its release. Not only that, but the game is still viral and has managed to reach 10 million downloads by the two-week mark.
It’s really surprising as many users find it hard to even get past the first level of the game. It is Flappy Bird all over again.
Mr. Jump uses polygon-based artwork in a 2D environment. It’s a really simple game just like Flappy Bird. Players are asked to tap on the screen to make the character jump over water and spikes to reach the end of each level. There are a total of 12 levels, and I can bet the majority hasn’t reached past the first 6 levels of the game.
Thomas Castel, one of the developers behind the game, said that his reaction to the final build was similar to that of Flappy Bird. He thought it was impossible to reach the end of level one.
There was a lot of virality to the game, a lot of sharing on Twitter on Facebook and other social networks, so Mr Jump just rocketed to the top of the charts and it was top free app in the U.S. for more than a week which was great.
The developers of Mr.Jump must be pretty happy to see the amount of success this game has got. However, this isn’t their first big hit. Actually it’s the second, their first hit was a Flappy Bird clone called Mr. Flap.
The success to Mr. Flap and Mr. Jump means these developers will keep making more games, in the hopes of more viral hits. They want to make games, we want to see them make more games, it’s a win-win situation for everybody.
