Stream Your Media From PC or Mac To iPad And iPhone Using VLC
Sometimes when you have have just downloaded the latest episode of a TV show on your PC or Mac and then you have to go out, you have to transfer the episode into your portable device such as iPhone or iPad so that you can watch it on the go. There needs to be a better solution to this problem and we have found it.
In fact, Plex has found it. Plex lets you stream media stored on PC or Mac to iPhone and iPad with VLC. The application is pretty simple to setup with involving a ton of hassle. Further, the indexing is largely automatic, and you have access to all of the plug-ins and tools from your iOS device that make Plex an ideal solution.
Here are the steps you need to perform on your PC or Mac first:
Step 1) Download and install Plex from Plex Website (it is free).
Step 2) On Plex Server interface, click “Media Manager.” A new window will appear.
Step 3) Click “Add a section” link in My Library.
Step 4) Select the type of media you want to add and navigate to the directory where that media is stored.
Step 5) Click “Save.”
After you are done with the steps mentioned above, you need to get VLC on your iOS device. Follow these steps on your iOS device such as iPhone or iPad:
Step 1) Open VLC on your iOS device.
Step 2) Tap on traffic cone icon in top right.
Step 3) Tap on “Local Network.” You will see Plex Media Server listed in the UPnP section.
Step 4) Tap on Plex Media Server. You will see all the media in your library.
That’s it. Now you should be able to remotely stream media from your home computer to your iOS device as long as you have both iOS device and PC/Mac on same WiFi network.
Sure there are other tools that will do this task for you, but the reason we recommend Plex is that the service offers you more control over your data, no third-parties required.
