Android 5.1 Lollipop OTA Update Arrives On Moto G Google Play Edition
The latest device among many to receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop Update is Google Play Edition of Motorola’s budget phone Moto G.
The update is being rolled out over-the-air so the users of Moto G Google Play Edition just have to wait until the update arrives. It packs all the new features Google announced when it revealed the update. One interesting feature is called Device Protection that works similarly to Apple’s Find My iPhone. This feature locks the smartphone and keeps it locked until the original owner signs into it with his or her Google account.
Android 5.1 update for Moto G Google Play Edition is tagged by the build number LMY47M, and has a total size of 171MB. The users are recommended to check if they have enough disk storage available on their phone before installing the update. They are also recommended to charge the smartphone to at least 50 percent to ensure that update gets installed without any interruptions.
There is no word about when other Google Play Edition devices will be receiving the Android 5.1 Lollipop update. So owners of Moto G who have this edition should feel lucky. However, the update is being rolled out in iterations so if you have not yet received the update, you will have to wait a few days or a week for its arrival.
If you are too excited for the update and want to install right now, there is an option for you too. The update can be manually downloaded and installed by using the download package. You should have some knowledge about flashing before manually installing the update. It is not that difficult to do this but still it requires some effort and risk as compared with just waiting for the update.
Android 5.1 Lollipop update is focused on fixing bugs found in its previous version rather than introducing new features. Still, the introduction of Device Protection and HD Voice in the latest update is welcoming and gives users a sense of “something new” in their devices.
