Feds Ask Reddit to Share Details on Users of Dark Net Markets
It looks like Reddit forum Dark Net Markets has finally caught the eye of the law enforcement authorities.
If you don’t know what Dark Net Markets is, let me enlighten you. It is a place that is turning out to be the central platform for online drug markets. You visit the page and you will always see hundreds of users surfing through to get their hands on what they want.
We have found out, thanks to one Redditor, that Baltimore Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Immigration and Customs Enforcement has taken a step and contacted the owners of the website with a subpoena asking them to identify five members who have caught their eye.
The five Reddit members that feds have subpoenaed the forums administrators for are Evosmith, NSWGreat, Z-L, DeepThroat_, and Gwern – the guy who took to the forums with details on the matter.
According to an excerpt shared by the same guy, Gwern Branwen, the written order is asking for the following details on the five Reddit users from the said forum:
The subscriber’s name; email address, registration IP address, registration date, current IP address b. The subscriber’s address; c. The subscriber’s local and long distance telephone toll billing records; d. The subscriber’s records of session times and durations; e. The subscriber’s length of service (including start date) and types of services utilized; f. The subscriber’s telephone or instrument number or other subscriber number or identity, including any temporarily assigned network address; and g. The subscriber’s means and source of payment for such service (including any credit card or bank number).
The subpoena is being linked to the Evolution drug market because all the five users appeared to have some information on the guys behind that massive market.
Could it be that the feds got wind of the five guys in question because they apparently have information that could unravel the people who ran the online drugs scene (and more) at Evolution?
