Windows Phone 10 May Run Android Apps
Without a ray of doubt Android and iOS app stores are far rich than the app collection for Windows phones. Microsoft is apparently not lulling in complacency as it is working to boost its apps catalog. Not very long time ago, it added some high profile apps including WatchESPN to its store. But the most recent rumors about Microsoft’s efforts to run Android apps on Windows phones are somehow too hard to digest.
According to various sources, Microsoft is working on the emulation technologies to make Android apps executable on its next arrival Windows Phone 10. To what scope will Microsoft be able in emulation? The sources claim that Microsoft has already developed a broad range of Android apps that are compatible to Windows 10 for phones.
Until this time, it can’t be said with surety whether Microsoft will include these apps in final version of the OS or not. Because no official stament has been made so far. But the level of commitment which the company is showing hints some solid plans for inclusion of Android apps.
Despite this huge progress which Microsoft has made in small span of time, there are some serious hurdles which can make Microsoft abandon its plans or at least cause a delay in release of the operating system. One prime factor will be the legal issue because if the developers are not given sufficient time to comprehend the technology and emulate without replication, Microsoft may have to face serious consequences as rivals will not let go the opportunity of suing the company.
Even if Microsoft successfully emulates the technology and releases the Windows 10 on time, the company will still be left with so many worries. For example, what will then be the significance of Windows universal app platform?
The aforesaid platform is a source of attracting many new developers to develop apps for Windows because it provides them with tools that can be used to develop one code apps executable on all the devices. But if they will feel intimidated by Android apps, they along with other native app makers may lose their sense of association with Microsoft.
However, addition of Android apps can help Microsoft in reducing the gap between number of quality apps available in Windows Phone Store and that of its rivals. App Store and Play Store possess an estimated app catalog of 1 million, while the poor Windows Phone Store had collected only 187,000 till November 2014.
