Google to Turn its Web Game, Ingress, into a TV Series
Niantic Labs is a game development studio that is a part of Google; among the tons of varied projects that the software giant has taken up, they also assigned game development to the team at Niantic who came out with Ingress, which is a massively multiplayer online role playing game in augmented reality that makes use of the GPS technology.
Although the game came out in 2013, that was not the end of it. We have picked up reports that Google is not only interested in making things (read software) that run on TV and transform the way it works, but they are also interested in making content to be run on TVs.
Word circling the internet suggests that the search engine giant is going to turn Ingress into a TV show. The game is apparently so popular that the higher ups have thought it would do good on the TV screens!
IF you have watched the Mummy series, and like it, you will be glad to know that the series producers Sean Daniel Co. is on board too. They are also making The Expanse, another TV show for Syfy.
The news has allegedly been leaked by two people with knowledge of the project and they say that the show has not been pitched to any TV networks so far, although it is expected that Google will do so soon.
It is really interesting to see the lines getting blurred between what these giants are doing or going to do. Software companies are making cars, game developers are making TV shows and what not.
We will be keeping an eye out for any other news relating to the TV show based on Ingress, but so far it is just the unofficial, alleged news, that has surfaced. Keep checking back for more!
