Leaked Photos Suggest Oppo’s Next Smartphone Will Be Bezel-Less
Keeping in view the smartphone manufacturers’ interest in the display technology, devices with magical designs are less than surprising. Over the past few weeks, we have noticed that smartphone vendors are actually working to introduce phones with edge to edge displays. Or, in simple words, smartphones without that bit of plastic or metal that surrounds the screen, called bezel. Some companies have actually launched such smartphones, $239 Sharp Aquos Crystal is an example.
Now, some leaks from Chinese sources suggest that Oppo is also going to introduce its next smartphone without a bezel. Which means that the display of the phone seems without a boundary line.
I feel incumbent to mention here that it’s not that these devices are absolutely flat at the sides and there is all glass, its their extremely thin edges which distinguish them from other phones which do have the fairly observable sides.
The reason why the display seems extending all the way to the edge is due to some sort of visual trickery which makes the sides of the screen diffract the light. Oppo has even filed a patent for this technology.
Have at look at the below photo to see how Oppo’s bezel-free smartphone looks like.
The Android-powered handset, called Oppo R7, is rumored to feature an octa-core MediaTek processor, 4G support and a 20.7-megapixel rear camera. No more details have surfaced yet. We have reached out to Oppo for more information, and will update you as soon as we hear a word.
Smartphones display technology is going through evolutionary and revolutionary period simultaneously. Just a day earlier, it was reported that Samsung is planning to launch a foldable smartphone in 2016. Foldable displays are considered to be the third stage of evolution of this technology.
Now the companies have begun producing phones without edges. Realistically saying, I never realized that the metal borders of the display screen are a specific component of the screen and is worth experimenting. Undoubtedly, the concept of bezel-free phone will surprise and entice many folks there. At the same time, the snaps of Oppo phone are an evidence that the technology can make devices even more stylish.
Except the intriguing looks, probably no technical effectiveness of such designs is there. But because these serve the purpose of alluring consumers on the basis of their distinct design, the technology is welcomed. In fact, producing slim and slimmer and slimmest devices have become the next pattern to follow in order to survive in the awfully crowded and highly competitive smartphone industry.
Innovation in smartphone displays is an expression of advancing technology or just a gimmick? You to decide.
