OnePlus Two: Separating Rumors And Facts
The rumors around OnePlus next flagship phone are circulating around, as the company looks forward to its new “flagship killer.” As many sources are revealing different release dates and somewhat different specs, here we separate the word that came from officials of OnePlus from non-official speculations.
The official word on OnePlus Two
As many have guessed, the device is indeed called OnePlus Two (no brainer). OnePlus CEO Carl Pei announced in January this year that the new phone would look extremely different from what its predecessor, and that it would surprise many people.
It shouldn’t be inferred from this statement that company is going to release a tablet. Mr. Pei mentioned that nobody in the industry has gained huge profits from tablets, and that smartphones command enough industry and consumer interest to be the sole focus of the company. Hence, a tablet is not to be expected from the company in near future.
He further mentioned that it would take at least six months for the company to release OnePlus Two. Considering the month of this announcement to be January, we are looking at July/August as month of release.
Talking more about company’s plans for OnePlus Two, Carl Pei told that the phone will come in different models for different regions such as North America, Europe, and Asia.
OnePlus has also confirmed that the company is working on its own operating system, after parting ways from Cyanogen. OnePlus Two will come with the company’s ColorOS which offers stock Android experience with no bloatware.
Lastly an unfortunate news for many people: OnePlus has confirmed that it would follow the same “invite system” for the new phone as it did for the OnePlus One, at least in the first few months of release.
Rumors about OnePlus Two from different sources
Most of the rumors are either based on the announcement mentioned above, or from inside sources of different news reporters.
BusinessInsider reported that OnePlus Two will not be as cheap as its predecessor that gained huge popularity because of its price point. However, the phone will still be much cheaper than most of the flagship phones found in the market.
A Chinese retailer GeekBuying put OnePlus Two on pre-order with a price tag of USD 538.19. The retailer also mentioned the release date of the phone as April 17th.
The company has also not revealed the specs of its next flagship. However different sources are reporting that OnePlus Two will come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 / 810, 4GB of RAM, 32 GB of onboard storage, 3100 mAh battery cell, 16 MP main camera and 5 MP front snapper. It would pack a 5.5-inch Quad HD display.
