Verizon Teams Up With AwesomenessTV To Offer New Video Streaming Service
Verizon Communications Inc. is coming up with an internet TV service later this year as the company has decided to give video streaming market another try. Verizon announced on Wednesday that it was working with AwesomenessTV and DreamWorks to provide 200 hours of novel content.
The announcement for another streaming service is quite significant from a company which failed in its earlier attempt — about five months ago — while competing a big name in the video streaming market, Netflix.
Verizon will reportedly target teens and families alike with its new, yet un-named, video streaming service. As seen from the huge following of its partner AwesomenessTV, the video streaming has got immensely popular on mobile devices. With its new service, the American telecommunications company will be directly targeting that audience. The company is optimistic about its success in its efforts to secure rewards from the mobile world.
“It’s increasingly clear that ‘mobile first’ is the way millennials are consuming all types of content, especially HD video and music,” said Terry Denson, vice president, content acquisition and strategy at Verizon. “At Verizon, we’re committed to working with only the best and most innovative content providers, like AwesomenessTV, and driving opportunities as new content models emerge and customers experience the most in-demand and popular video in entirely new ways.”
Both the partner channels will target different age-group audiences based on the content they generate. To explain, the AwesomenessTV channel will try to allure young adults and teens, while DreamWorksTV will target family audience with its live action, animation content and vlog-based short clips.
Both AwesomenessTV and DreamWorksTV have sizeable audiences. Especially, AwesomenessTV is very popular among the teenagers. Its exceptional fan following is obvious from its 112 million subscribers and over 7 billion views.
Brian Robbins, who is CEO and co founder of AwesomenessTV, sees partnership with Verizon as an ample opportunity to grow audience. “This is an incredible opportunity to expand the audience for both AwesomenessTV and DreamWorksTV,” Mr Robbins said. “Mobile is where our audience lives, which is why we are looking forward to working with Verizon to introduce our programming and talent to their massive customer base.”
