Will Samsung Launch Waterproof Galaxy S6 Active?
Samsung included waterproof capabilities in last year’s Galaxy S5, but decided to drop the feature in Galaxy S6. The reason behind the decision is unknown but the move suggests the possibility of another version of Galaxy S6 with waterproof body, which might be released later this year.
Twitter tipster, @Upleaks, has spotted a new handset which has a mystery name. They tweeted about the model SM-G890A for AT&T, which they believe might be the Galaxy S6 Active. Samsung launched the Galaxy S5 Active one month after the original S5 was released. Their tweet reads:
“SM-G890A for AT&T(Galaxy S6 Active perhaps?)”
The main difference between the two handsets was the durability. The Galaxy S5 Active added benefit of withstanding extreme temperatures, high humidity and falls of up to 4 feet onto hard surfaces. However, both of the models were submersible for 3 feet of water for 30 minutes.
Also, it was released via AT&T with the model number SM-G870A. So the new Samsung handset which carries a similar model number might be the Galaxy S6 Active. The leak suggests that the phone will go on sale before the end of the year.
All that said, these are just speculations and no official announcement has been made by the Korean company.
Samsung is currently preparing to launch Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, both of which are confirmed to be released on April 10. Both phones will feature strong Exynos chips that rival with Snapdragon 810. The phones will come in five different colors with traditional black and white models lining up alongside gold, blue and green alternatives.
Having another model with more durable design will help Samsung compete with iPhone 6S, which is also expected to be released later this year. The iPhone 6s is also rumored to come with a lightweight hydrophobic coating that helps in resisting water.
