Imgur Releases a New iOS App, Android Version Coming Soon
Imgur previously released its app for both iOS and Android but later pulled them due to lack of growth. Now once again, in an attempt to gain more audience on mobile, Imgur has released a proper app. However, the company is only targeting iOS users, at least for now.
The app in question will make it much easier for users to browse through Imgur’s amazing collection of GIF’s, photos and more. As I said, this isn’t the first time the company has released a mobile app, but Imgur feels this the first time they got the concept right.
Imgur CEO and Founder Alan Schaaf says the app is beautiful and it’s “the best browsing experience for Imgur period, that exists.”
On its second attempt, Imgur has taken a very different route for the app. It doesn’t look anything like the browser version. You aren’t shown grids of images and are presented with a row of cards. It uses swipe interaction to browse through these cards and allows users to favorite and comment on the content similar to the web version.
Using the horizontal scroll, you can browse the content in two categories – Popular and Newest. Although the app is currently only available for iOS, its Android counterpart is in development.
Also, the app shows you the most viral GIFs/images by default, which allows you to keep-up with the latest content. However, one the main features is still not included in the app. User can’t upload images to Imgur’s servers.
Schaaf says the feature will soon be added and is among their top priorities. The company seems really happy with the launch of this new app and are working hard to make it successful.
Only time will tell how will their efforts pay-off. For now, Imgur app looks great and is a huge improvement over its predecessor.
