Microsoft Launches Two Budget Windows Phone devices: Lumia 640 And Lumia 640 XL
Mobile World Congress (MWC) hosts launching ceremonies of mobile phones in almost all the ranges from all the companies. In this year’s MWC too, being held in Barcelona, mobiles in prime categories as well as mid -ranged and cheaper devices have been unveiled. One of Samsung’s biggest rivals Apple is not part of this year’s MWC. Sony and Microsoft have decided to undercut the aforementioned rivals by launching budget devices.
Present in the conference, Microsoft has come up with mid-ranged phones and is not introducing any new flagship. It has launched the Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL. The company is also offering the dual-SIM and LTE variants of the handsets.
“Today we announced two new, affordable Lumia phones: the Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL , both of which give people the flexibility to do more anywhere, and at any time. These phones will be upgradable to Windows 10, when it becomes available later this year,” read the official blog post from Microsoft.
The devices will reach the general markets across the globe in April. Users will have the option to choose between 3G and LTE models. The Microsoft Lumia 640 is a single SIM phone and is supported with faster data network LTE. This will be priced at about $179.
The variant, on the other hand, will be featured with dual-SIM option. This version won’t have the LTE support but will offer 3G connectivity. Because the later supports a slower data network, it will cost less than the former: $139. The costs for users are likely to go higher as theses prices don’t include the taxes.
Microsoft seems persistent with variety offering. It has offered its first budget Windows powered phablet Microsoft Lumia 640 XL in four variants. The variants are offered on the basis of SIM support and data speed.
Four variants include: Microsoft Lumia 640 XL with single SIM and 3G connectivity; Microsoft Lumia 640 XL LTE, which will come with LTE; Microsoft Lumia 640 XL Dual SIM offering 3G connectivity support and the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL LTE Dual SIM,will be a dual-SIM LTE variant.
The phablet will be available for public purchasing starting March. The initial price for the 3G model will be around $212 while LTE model will be sold for approximately $246.
The devices will feature all the popular apps of Microsoft devices, for example, Cortana, Skype, Office, Outlook, and OneDrive. In addition, the buyers of both Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL will get a free one-year subscription of complete Office 365.
