WordPress Makes Twitter Plugin Official
WordPress users had to use third-party plugins to embed tweets in their posts, and to provide other Twitter-related features such as sharing to Twitter. It is all changing now as WordPress launches an official Twitter plugin that will provide number of features to its users.
The plugin will not only support linking Twitter content to the WordPress, but it will also allow users to post WordPress content to Twitter in a unique way by using Twitter Cards. It will give more visibility to one’s tweet beyond a simple hyperlink. Here is how Twitter Card looks like:
Hence, users will be able to add additional content to the post they make on Twitter. It will give more exposure to the content hosted on their WordPress site.
In addition to Twitter Cards, users will also be able to embed tweets into their WordPress sites and incorporate embedded Twitter videos as well. They will also have the option of choosing the color of the embedded tweet to match it with their WordPress site’s theme.
Last but not least, WordPress users will be able to provide Tweet and Follow buttons directly in their content. This will allow the readers to interact with the writer directly on the Twitter. Again, this is not a new feature as users have been doing this by using third-party plugins. It is just that all of these features are now officially available.
Advertisers can also take advantage of the plugin. They will be able to view insights using Twitter Insights which tells how popular their content is. The plugin will provide updated statistics about how many users viewed or interacted with their content on Twitter. In shot, content creators can track their content’s popularity on Twitter.
The official description of plugin reads:
The Twitter plugin for WordPress optimizes your website for a Twitter audience through easy to use sharing buttons, embedded Tweets, auto-generated markup indexed by Twitter, and Follow buttons to help grow your Twitter audience. All features are deeply integrated with WordPress APIs to make building your webpages and administrative features as easy as possible with the extensibility you expect from WordPress.
The company, however, has not made it clear how their plugin is better than third-party plugins. The users need to know the advantage over third-party plugins if they are to be convinced to ditch them, because they have been using third-party plugins for quite a time. However, new WordPress users will not rely on third-party plugins as they will be getting all those features directly.
You can install Twitter plugin for WordPress in the same way as you install any other plugin.
