Modern Family’s New Episode Will Take Place Inside a Macbook
Modern Family is probably the biggest sitcom in the United States at the moment. In every episode we see different characters using iPhones or Macbooks. Not only Modern Family, but every other sitcom features these gadgets.
However, for the first time ever an episode of TV show will take place inside a character’s Mac. On February 25, a new episode of Modern Family will air under the name “Connection Lost” that will take all of the characters inside a laptop.
It’s definitely a new formula but it also shows the love the creators of Modern Family have for Mac. The camera will capture the episode from a computer screen, tracking the webpages, mouse and other apps which an unseen user operates.
This formula has been previously used only in some ads and it’s the first screen capture filmmaking introduced in a TV show of this scale. Back in 2013, a short film called Noah used this technique to great success. The film based around a teenagers computer screen.
That’s not all, Universal is developing a complete horror movie by using this technique. The film is expected sometime later this year.
In the new episode of Modern Family, we will be looking at the laptop screen of Claire Dunphy who had disagreement with one her daughters, Haley. Claire is sitting at the airport and trying reach her daughter Haley via multiple apps on the laptop. She talks to multiple members of her family through these apps in an attempt to find her daughter.
Creator Steven Levitan spoke during an interview and revealed where the idea came from. He stated that two of his daughters are in collage and use FaceTime a lot. During his routine work one day, he received a video chat request from his daughter. On the screen of his machine, he saw his daughter, his work and his wife all at the same time.
And I realized on that screen you could tell so much about my life. So the original idea was from there.
Levitan’s love for Apple products has a huge hand in the creation of this episode, and the regular use of Apple products by the cast of Modern Family during many episodes. We will see how successful this concept proves to be for a sitcom on February 25.
