Pebble Upgrades Its Smartwatch By Adding Android Wear App Support
Frequent smart innovations and technological advancements have made the world smaller and accessible. Pebble’s smartwatch is one such device which will let users access and respond to the notifications, coming from literally all over the world, to their wrists. The Pebble’s platform has recently achieved the compatibility with Google’s Android operating system.
The functionality was brought in the market for general people on Monday, after having been beta tested since December. What the Pebble smartwatch has earned through the Android Wear support is the availability of features which are characteristics of smartwatches running Google’s OS.
In the video posted by Pebble on YouTube, we can see that the user receives a Google Hangout message and then replies it with a template message. Similarly, it also shows how users can handle money transactions using Squash Cash.
However, in order to use the upgraded functions, Pebble owners need to integrate Android Wear into their watches. The users can do so by updating the firmware on their watch and then by downloading the latest versions of the smartphone app, company has specified for Android.
Pebble has established itself as a competitive player in the field of producing smart devices. Among all others factors, Pebble’s strategy for marketing its products has given the company a momentum. As market research company Canalys observes: its marketing strategy is all about momentum which it achieves by giving the products a good start and then, with the passage of time, to pick up the pace.
The company tactics have been pretty successful until now. In this same context, it has added support for Android apps – a tactic which may help Pebble in selling its watch in the market.
Whatsoever, the next pervasive trend in the technological market seems to be the smartwatches. In particular, when the Apple watch will come to market in April, the competition will get tougher among the smartwatch makers.
Ben Wood, chief of research at CCS Insight phrases it like this:
“The Apple Watch will be instrumental in taking the wearables market to the next level of growth. If successful it’ll create a rising tide that will lift the whole market.”
