Rumor: Evan Spiegel May Buy Big Machine Record Label
Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel is rumoured to be interested in acquiring Big Machine record label, which is most famous for housing Taylor Swift.
According to a new report, reliable source suggests that Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine has allegedly gone up from $200 million to $350 million. However, Evan seems to make a deal with the company.
Evan Spiegel has previously showed interest as leaked emails during Sony Computer Entertainment hack suggested that Spiegel “would like to have a record label so he could focus on the artists that he wants to use [Snapchat] to promote.”
But he is not the only one after the brand. Some sources claim that even Apple is interested to get a hold of Big Machine to boost its new music-streaming service that’s scheduled to launch later this year. Although Apple has denied these rumours, sources claim that both Apple and Snapchat are indeed looking into a deal.
Snapchat has doubled on its content with the release of “Discover,” which is a number of curated channels offering content and video from select partners, including National Geographic, MTV, Yahoo and VICE. If Snapchat manages to acquire Big machine, it will help push Discover to a new direction.
Rumors also suggest that Apple and Snapchat may join forces in some way for this acquisition. The deal will be highly interesting as tabloids suggest Taylor Swift has been romantically involved with Evan but later they were separated. Him buying Big Machine won’t make Taylor happy in anyway.
The 24-year old billionaire recently signed a deal with Warner Bros to bring music videos to Snapchat. He is a former Kappa Sigma overachiever and among the most eligible bachelors. Who knows, Snapchat’s acquisition of Big Machine may bring him and Taylor back together.
Nothing has been confirmed yet by Snapchat or Big Machine, but we’ll let you know as soon as things are made official. Till then, feel free to share your views about the story in the comments.
